This San Marco historic preservation riverfront estate is one of the most spectacular designs in the Studio M portfolio.

The San Marco historic preservation features Georgian architecture influenced by neoclassical references. This discerning client custom-tailored every space with a mix of modern and traditional furniture, flooring, millwork, and high-end art collections. Every detail was poured over in the family residence, and the finished product is really something to behold.

The architectural style of this San Marco preservation home is pulled from the Georgian era and was modified to fit the lot, emphasizing keeping a few beautiful oak trees over 100 years old.

Our clients were a young married couple with two small children and one more on the way. They also had a Labrador Retriever, and life was busy! They wanted to keep the interior as open as possible within the context of the architecture, with areas dedicated to kids and adults alike. We created an open plan for the kitchen and family gathering space with a playroom for the kids outside the kitchen. For the man of the home, we created a sizable office and leisure space on the north end of the home, just off the foyer. It contained an office area, a TV area with a wet bar, and a game table so they could entertain friends or family.

We worked hard to keep the aesthetic cleaner and more modern to fit the family while respecting the home’s architecture. We used clean lines on built-in cabinetry and a more modern bright white for the trim and painted brick, bridging the line between the past and the present.
We used heart pine wood from their family ranch for the floors throughout. We also reclaimed some pecky cypress from the ranch and had it milled for wall panel details in the study. These pieces of familial history were a personal touch that we were excited to bring to the table.
All the elements of a historic Georgian home were implemented, but a fresh look was given to the details of cleaned-up molding and trim, fireplace mantle design, and door hardware. Everything nodded to antiquity but remained modern and fresh in our approach to details, materials, and colors. This home won a Historic Preservation Award in 2014.
